The Hebrew alphabet contains 22 letters and is written from right to left. Ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities regard Hebrew as a sacred or holy language (Leshon HaKodesh, in Hebrew) which should be used only for religious purposes. Some in these communities speak and write in only Yiddish, (which uses the Hebrew alphabet), for their daily needs.
