This type of tiles dominates the roof scene and texture of most traditional neighborhoods built in Jerusalem between the end of the 19th century and the late 1930s.

Some tiles on Jerusalem roofs were produced by the local M. Steinberg Block and Tile factory, which operated between the western outskirts of Jerusalem.
