The original paving of alleyways in some Jewish neighborhoods consisted of elongated narrow stones, similar to cobblestones, often used in European cities. Most of these pavings are no longer extant, since they have been either dismantled or covered with asphalt. Me’a She’arim (1874) and Batei Ungarin (1891) Neighborhoods.
