Most public and residential buildings in the Ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods were erected with the aid of Jews who donated or bequeathed funds for the project. These plaques note the donors’ names and origins, the date of the building’s construction, the purpose of the donation, and the conditions imposed on the dwellers by the benefactor.
