Functional-Sculptural Features. Christian institutional buildings erected in Jerusalem between the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century, were among the few who could afford heating their rooms with a fireplace or a cast-iron stove. Some of the roofs in these buildings have decorative chimney structures, which add to the diversity of the city’s skyline.
