Structural-Decorative Reinforcements. Buttresses are structural features, built to strengthen buildings, and serve in transferring the heavy weight of the roof and walls, down to the ground. They exist primarily in churches, where their sculptural and protruding shapes, mainly as a “flying buttress”, enrich the aesthetic appearance of the building.
