The emblem of the Imperial Russian Orthodox Palestine Society is engraved on many Russian buildings in Jerusalem. The inscription in Russian reads: “For the sake of Zion I will not be silent / For the sake of Jerusalem I will not be still” (Isaiah 62:1). In the center are the two Greek letters “chi” and “rho”, denoting “Christ the Messiah”, and the letters “alpha” and “omega”, the first and last letters, respectively, of the Greek alphabet, symbolizing Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
