Neo-Classic Ornaments. A pediment is the triangular gable structure above a doorway or window, and usually rests on the lintel or entablature. The tympanum, the wall surface above the entrance, is often used for inscriptions, coat-of-arms or symbolic figurative motifs. In Jerusalem, pediments are prevalent in churches and in Christian institutional buildings.
