Traditional Islamic Identity. The chronological urban development of Arab neighborhoods is recorded, mostly in Eastern-Arabic numerals, on gates and doorways of Arab houses, built mainly in the neighborhoods of Musrara, Ethiopian Quarter and Sheikh Jarrah, but also in other parts of Jerusalem. The numerals are designed as an integral part of decorative iron grilles, or engraved on keystones and stone plaques.
