Well Kept Gardens. Many of the pre-1948 affluent Arab houses, mainly in Talbieh, Katamon and Baq’a Neighborhoods, were surrounded by well-kept gardens. Their botanic repertoire included mainly bougainvillea and jasmin bushes as well as palm, citrus, fig, loquat and wisteria trees. Most of these gardens no longer exist. In this chapter are remanents of some original gardens.
