Protection from the Evil Eye. The Islamic world, as well as other cultures, adopted the popular belief that objects such as the Hamsa (reperesenting the open-hand palm), turquoise-blue colors, horse-shoe and dilapidated, worn shoes, can serve as amulets to safe-guard the home and its dwellers from the Evil Eye. These objects are prevalent mostly on doorways. In Jerusalem they can be found mainly in the Muslim Quarter and in Silwan village.
